Katharina von Bora Luther was a practical and bold woman of faith. In 1997, the Women of the ELCA established Katie’s Fund to honor the legacy of Katharina von Bora Luther, to raise up bold leaders for the churchwide women’s organization, and to support bold and creative ministry for generations to come.
The total goal of the All Anew Campaign for Katie’s Fund is to grow the fund from its current total of about $1.5 million to $4.5 million by July 2020 (11th Triennial Convention). As an endowed fund, the money held in Katie’s Fund is invested carefully to generate income. That annual income, which is generally about 4 percent of the amount invested, may be used by the churchwide women’s organization for leadership development, living theology and global connections.
Your generous support of Katie’s Fund, through regular gifts and through the All Anew Campaign for Katie’s Fund, really makes a difference in women’s lives.
‘Pennies for Poverty’ is our women’s synod special offering at our Biennial Convention that is given to social service agencies or projects that benefit women and children who live in poverty.
Thank you for all your donations to Pennies for Poverty. Last spring, the board elected to have each giving unit designate where they would like to have this year’s (2018) donation sent. The reason was to let you support your local domestic abuse shelter. While this was a great idea, we have learned that a record is still needed of who has given to Pennies for Poverty, which counts toward your active unit status with the Women of the ELCA (churchwide).
You can either:
- Send to me on form B, the name of the shelter, amount given, and date if you already have given away your pennies.
- Send me your donation on form B. On that form, please designate if you have a local shelter you wish the monies be sent to. Also include the address of the shelter. If no designation is given, the money will be sent to the Domestic Abuse Shelter in Madison.
We ask from now on that all money be sent to the SCSW treasurer to be dispersed. Your local shelter will receive the money if you so desire. 100% of all money goes to domestic abuse shelters.
Please send to:
Bonnie Gilbertson, SCSW treasurer, 5498 Windridge Road, Oregon, WI 53575
Your Synodical Women’s Organization and churchwide Women of the ELCA want to know what your women’s group has done in 2017.
What activities have you held or assisted with? What did you send to LWR? Save a copy of the LWR Donation report. What Women of the ELCA resources do you use?
Please complete the Women of the ELCA Yearly Ministry Report and bring it to the January Update and Sharing Events for the sharing time. Helen will send all reports to churchwide office. If you are unable to attend one of the events, please email it or send it to Helen Sheahan email@example.com or 1106 Valley Stream Drive, Madison, WI 53711 by Feb. 15, 2018.
