Keynoter, Jeanne Hoffman notes that national efforts to fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gases are stagnating. However, the City of Madison has joined with 84 other American cities to take up the task by eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by joining the Ready for 100% — a campaign to set a goal of achieving 100% renewable energy. Jeanne Hoffman staffs the Madison Sustainability Committee to make that happen by systematically reviewing city operations to determine the most cost effective measures available. Already, the city has taken a major step to offset its electric power purchases from the grid by investing $1.4 million in a new solar farm.
