ELCA Youth Gathering

Every three years, 30,000+ high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives.

In 2018 our synod had 724 high school youth and adult leaders who traveled to Houston under the theme of “This Changes Everything”. Our synod is now planning for our trip to the next ELCA Youth Gathering; now to be held in 2022.

Welcome to the 2022 ELCA Youth Gathering!

On behalf of the ELCA Youth Gathering and the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin welcome to the 2022 ELCA Youth Gathering! After the hard decision was made to postpone the 2021 Youth Gathering we are so excited to begin planning again. This page will seek to be a synod-specific resource in order to help adult leaders help congregations get ready for registration which opens in September and then in preparing for the journey to the Gathering next summer.

In June and July we held two Congregation Adult Leader Information Meetings. Below is a recording of the meeting that took place on July 14, 2021 specifically for primary adult leaders of congregations in the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin-ELCA in preparation for the 2022 ELCA Youth Gathering:

Gathering Synod Bus Transportation

We are excited to once again be offering bus transportation as a synod to/from the Gathering in Minneapolis. All congregations in the SCSW are eligible to make reservations to join us. The cost is $90.00 per person (adult or youth) and includes:

  • Round-trip transportation to/From Minneapolis departing from various convenient locations throughout the synod on Saturday, July 23, 2022 and returning on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
  • Use of the bus (in consultation with the other groups on your bus) to do some sightseeing in the Minneapolis area on Sunday, July 24, 2022 prior to being dropped off at US Bank Stadium that evening for the start of the Gathering.
  • Fellowship, Fun, and New Friendships!

That last one is what makes the trip worth it. Taking the synod buses allows for everyone to have a care-free travel experience while enjoying the company of new friends along the way.

Now for the fine print: Reservations for the synod buses will be available beginning Friday, September 24, 2021. To reserve your group you will register online and you will need your Congregational ID # (just as you will for Gathering registration). Groups can register and make changes to their reservations as long as space is available on the buses up until February 21, 2022. A $150.00 non-refundable deposit is due per congregation by February, 21, 2022. Payments can be made by check to the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin and mailed to the synod office (note “Gathering Bus” somewhere on your check) OR paid online via our giving portal with a credit card (congregations are required to cover the fees associated with credit card transactions: ~$2.47 per person). When paying online choose “Gathering Bus” and please type your congregation name and city in the note/memo field.

Registration Questions Related to Transportation: When you register your group for the Gathering itself there are several questions that will be asked regarding your arrival/departure dates and transporation. If you are planning to travel with us on the synod bus here is how you need to respond to those questions:

  1. Arrival Date: July 23, 2022
  2. Congregation will Arrive by: Charter Bus
  3. Departure Date: July 28, 2022
  4. Congregation will Depart by: Charter Bus
  5. “Subcontracting” Buses: NO
  6. Daily Transportation: Mark the box that says you will use “Gathering-provided Daily Transportation” during the Gathering.
  7. After the Final Mass Gathering: Our groups will depart for home directly.

These questions will help the Gathering understand how your group will be traveling and ensures you are set-up correctly. Note there are places to put in the congregational IDs of congregations you are “traveling” with. Please wait to complete that step until we give you your bus assignments (March, 2022) which will include all of the congregations who will be on your bus with you.

If you have any questions about how to answer these questions, please reach out to Jason at anytime.
