The Music of Ben & Caitlin Johnston-Urey, Featured at Synod Assembly 2016
In keeping with our assembly theme of One Story: Always Re-Forming, the music featured at this years’ Sunday worship at Synod Assembly centered around presenting traditional hymn settings and liturgy in new and engaging ways. This post-modern approach to music in worship seeks to render labels such as “traditional” and “contemporary” irrelevant, by allowing the full breadth and richness of church musical tradition to co-exist with, and enhance, a panoply of modern and emergent worship styles. Providing for such a platform in our worship not only preserves the distinct liturgy and ordo of Lutheran worship, but presents it in a musical vernacular that can be communicated across many different backgrounds and age groups.

Ben Johnston-Urey, along with his wife Caitlin Johnston-Urey, co-composed much of the music for this year’s Sunday worship. If you are interested in utilizing some of the music and liturgy you heard, or if you would like to have a new liturgy commissioned for your congregation, please feel free to contact him using the information below.

Ben is also available on a limited basis to give workshops, presentations, and concerts to individual congregations.
