Stewardship

StewardshipAs ELCA Lutherans, we faithfully steward the gifts God has so abundantly given to us. Stewardship is so much more than money. It is about how we use all that God has entrusted to our care — our time, our talents and our treasures — to love God and love our neighbors, both inside and outside of the church walls and our homes.

Our synod stewardship is led by our Generosity Table, members include Rev. Erik Jelinek, DEM; Rev. Fred Rilling;
Rev. Gene Talley; Jen Kooistra; Gary & Gretchen Dalgaard, Karen Kretschmann

StoriesStewardship Tip:
Inspiring Stewardship Through the Power of Stories
Motivational speaker Jim Rohm once said, "Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have."

In our ELCA congregations across the country, there are many people who understand this idea that by giving to others, we receive something that enriches our lives. People who have experienced the true joy of giving, those who have experienced that warm, tingling feeling of knowing they walked along side others to improve life.

Mission Interpreters throughout our ELCA tell the stories of how God, through our collective generosity, is changing the lives of so many. Through storytelling, mission interpreters inspire members of congregations to be in relationship with those in local neighborhoods, across the United States and around the globe who might be in need of a little generosity. Mission interpreters tell the stories of how we are the church together, and together we are able to do so much more!

Please consider having a mission interpreter in your congregation who might share a story like this one: click here, to inspire the members of your congregation to even greater generosity for the good of others.

Live Free
The new "Live Free" stewardship emphasis theme materials include a set of four worship starter videos. The "Live Free" emphasis is based on 1 Timothy 6:18-19 and Galatians 5:1. There is a video for each of the "Live Free" sub-themes: Free from the Money Trap, Free to Be Rich, Free from the Uncertainty of Riches, and Free to Take Hold of Life. Each video is approximately 1.5 minutes. You can preview all the videos on the ESC YouTube channel.

Use these resources to develop your "Live Free" stewardship campaign: the Giving: Growing Joyful Stewards in Your Congregation magazine Volume 17, coordinating theme materials, and the Live Free Companion Resource to develop your stewardship campaign. The magazine contains a basic timeline: the Companion Resource includes a more detailed timeline and numerous worship and study resources.

Peruse the "Live Free" resources in the ESC Web Store, as well as resources using 16 other biblically-based themes. Have questions? Reach out to us via e-mail or phone: we're happy to help!
