Lay School of Ministry PDF Print E-mail

The South-Central Synod of Wisconsin offers Lay School of Ministry classes as a service to the people of its congregations.

Lay School of Ministry (LSM) classes are designed for:

  • People desiring personal enrichment
  • Lay church staff wishing to enhance their knowledge
  • Those discerning their call to serve the church as a rostered leader
  • Persons desiring to partially fulfill (our program does not completely fulfill) educational requirements for becoming rostered as an Associate in Minstry, Diaconal Minister or for Ordained Ministry.
  • Persons who seek to serve in public ministry within or on behalf of their own congregation as a Congregationally Recognized Partner in Ministry (CRPM)

Review the Lay School of Ministry Outcomes.

Rostered Ministry

Within the ELCA, there are three officially recognized and rostered positions:  Ordained Minsters, Associates in Ministry and Diaconal Ministers.  Persons interested in the Lay School of Ministry as a means to partially fulfill (our program does not fulfill) the requrirements for becoming rostered will need to contact the Candidacy Commmittee in addditon to submitting the forms for the Lay School.  Candidacy information and forms are available from the the Synod Candidacy Committee.  Please contact the Synod Office for more information at 608-270-0201.

Review Associate in Ministry Information.

A Discernment Day will be held on Sunday, October 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at St. James Lutheran Church in Verona.  This event offers a time for exploring many questions regarding God's call to public ministry.  For more information about the next scheduled Discernment Day, contact the synod office at 608-270-0201.

TESTIMONIAL

A congregation in our synod has graduated five students and has three more in the program.  Here is what one pastor has to say about the lay school of ministry.

If you have questions regarding the Lay School, please contact the synod office at 608-270-0201.
