Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb
Some days, many people in the world have little if anything to eat. RICE FOR DINNER is a commitment that the members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb have made to support organizations that provide food to decrease world hunger.
ELC in Mount Horeb designated the ELCA World Hunger Appeal organization (www.elca.or/hunger) to be the recipients of the money they collect because the total dollar amount contributed goes directly to the cause. Here’s how it works: Each individual or family makes a commitment to eat RICE for DINNER, once a month or however often they decide. OR...Each individual or family might decide to eat a meal each week or month that would be considered more frugal. The money saved by not having a “normal meal,” which would be considered extravagant by many, is then contributed to the designated organization. To promote this effort, members were given a brief instruction sheet that asked them to sign the sheet as a symbol of their commitment. The sheet was then attached to a snack bag filled with a little rice. What a beautifully simple, yet powerful ministry. We think this is a wonderful example of God’s work. Our hands.
