Global Connections

If you are interested in joining or learning more about these ministries, you will find contact information for team members in the “Contact Us” area of the website. Global Connections Ministry seeks to involve individuals and congregations of the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin in mutual ministry to our global family, both locally and in other parts of the world.  This task includes:

  • connecting people and congregations throughout the synod by planning synod events of global significance,
  • providing information about those events and others,
  • inspiring and encouraging people with a "heart" for global ministry,
  • supplying ideas, resources and inspiration, and encouraging others to become interested in global ministry.

Global Connections Ministry is a recognized ministry of the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin.  GCM is comprised of the following teams:

Care of Creation Team

The Care of Creation team seeks to increase the awareness of God's love for all creation and our call to participate as stewards in the care of creation.  The Care of Creation team is working to:

  • Form an e-mail network of those interested in caring for creation
  • Develop a Care of Creation education/worship event
  • Initiate an Energy Collaborative
  • Developing a "Place-Based" Display
  • Create and Publicize Energy Off-sets

Companion Synod Team

The Companion Synod team is committed to strengthening ties to the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin's partnership with the Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church in India.  Our covenant (see link below) states the Vision, Mission, and Expressions that guide the development of this relationship through mutuality and accountability.

Human Rights Team

The Human Rights Team works toward advocacy, education, and programming in the Synod regarding issues of human rights and justice in God's creation.  The team not only addresses the concerns and struggles of people abroad, but also here in the United States, in Wisconsin, and our local communities.  We work in cooperation with the ELCA Churchwide Advocacy Unit and through the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin.  Through the Lutheran World Federation and other ecumenical groups, the church offers support to many different struggles against tyranny and oppression around the world. Our work includes leading educational sessions and dialogue in the synodical setting, coordinating work with local congregations, and advocating for legislative action in government and the church.  We also are available to help individual churches with their Human Rights & Justice issues, whether we provide a speaker or help them learn how to become Christian advocates in our society. One of the fundamental truths for the church is that we are all one in Christ Jesus.  If one member of humanity is hurt in this world, the entire body of Christ is hurt.  We are entrusted to continually call for and be agents of God's grace to the oppressed, the poor, the sick, the hungry, the naked, the least of all.

Peace Through Non-Violent Action Team

The Peace Team focuses on three issues:

  • Nonviolence education and training
  • Militarism and War
  • Middle East Peace

The Peace Team provides information for members and congregations, educational resources, workshops at Synod events and action alerts.  The Peace Team welcomes all members of congregations in the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin.

World Hunger Team

Because we live in a world with brothers and sisters who suffer hunger and oppression, and because God calls us to love our neighbors as Christ loves us; the World Hunger team fosters and encourages:

  • The education of the members of this church on all matters pertaining to hunger.

  • Providing relief and development assistance for those who suffer from hunger and related injustices.

  • Advocating policies and actions for justice relating to hunger.
