As a community of women
- created in the image of God,
- called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and
- empowered by the Holy Spirit,
we commit ourselves to
- grow in faith
- affirm our gifts,
- support one another in our callings,
- engage in ministry in action, and
- promote healing and wholeness,
- - in the church,
- - in the society, and
- - the world.
We grow in faith through our monthly Bible studies as found in our magazine, Lutheran Women Today. Spiritual growth is also promoted through prayer, participating in the World Day of Prayer, our local unit meetings, Spring and Fall Conference Gatherings, the Biennial Convention of our Synodical organization and the Triennial Convention of the entire national and international organization. Our synodical organization sponsors a spiritual retreat every other year, and the women are encouraged in their faith through regular fellowship with other members of our organization.
We support one another by providing scholarships to the Biennial and Triennial Conventions, for those who are participating in Seminary and Lay Minstry training and grants for various organizations that help promote wellness for women. We are participating in the churchwide initiative to raise up healthy women and girls by providing education and training.
We support women and chldren around the world by providing Health, Sewing, School, Midwife and Hospice Kits. We also provide quilts, layettes, and bandages, and caps for new babies. We have chosen to specifically help the women of Guatemala in their attempts to gain a better life.
We support local women and children by participating in food panty drives and giving monetary gifts to numerous organizations that need our help.
We also support our ELCA Bible camps, college campus ministries, Lutheran Social Services and many other aspects of our church by sending substantial protions of all opfferings to the ELCA.
Through our offerings we are supporting the work of the churchwide staff of the Women of the ELCA, which includes publications, resources, and grants, and the promotion of mission activities.
Carolyn Lien is the President of the Synodical Women's Organization of the Women of the ELCA.
